Is the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq a Good SUV?

Yes, the all-new Cadillac Lyriq is a great option if you're shopping for a luxury electric SUV. The Lyriq hustles swiftly and silently up to speed, and its large battery pack provides more than 300 miles of driving range on a full charge. In a nod to Cadillacs of old, the Lyriq is especially comfortable to drive, even on rougher pavement, and its interior is spacious and built to a lofty standard. This Caddy also comes packed with advanced tech and safety features, including the brand's Super Cruise hands-free driving system. The icing on the proverbial cake is the Lyriq's relatively low $63,000 starting price.

Should I Buy the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq?

You should definitely consider the Lyriq if you're in the market for an electric SUV. It's comfortable, luxurious, dripping with technology and long-legged enough to make range anxiety a thing of the past. Unfortunately though, you may have to wait to buy one. Cadillac announced that the 2023 model is sold out, and the brand is accepting reservations for the 2024 model. If that extended timeline is a deal-breaker for you, other great – and more immediate – options include the Genesis GV60, BMW iX and Tesla Model Y.

Can I Lease the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq?

Cadillac says that it has sold out its entire run of 2023 Lyriq models. This means that you won't be able to lease a 2023 Lyriq unless you have an existing pre-order. On the plus side, the brand is already accepting pre-orders for the 2024 model, so there's still time to get in line.

How Much Does It Cost to Insure a Cadillac Lyriq?

The cost of insuring a Cadillac Lyriq will depend on a variety of factors, including your deductible, the level of coverage that you want, and the type of insurance that you choose. Your age, gender, location, credit score, and driving record can also have an impact on your insurance rates. Check out our car insurance guide to find the best policy for you.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq Versus the Competition

Cadillac Lyriq vs. Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y excels in a few areas where the Lyriq falls short. For instance, the Model Y offers a bit more overall cargo space, thanks in part to its front trunk, and it can seat up to seven passengers in a pinch (albeit tightly). The Tesla also claims a longer driving range (330 miles), sharper handling and faster acceleration, as well as access to the brand's Supercharger network, which makes for easier long-distance travel. But it isn't a knockout for the Tesla. The Lyriq costs less than the Model Y, its interior is more luxurious, and it's more comfortable to drive on rough roads.

Cadillac Lyriq vs. BMW iX

The BMW iX is another great option in this segment. Like the Lyriq, the iX is library-quiet and comfortable to drive, and it provides generous passenger space and cutting-edge tech features. That said, the iX offers more cargo room, considerably faster acceleration and a bit more driving range (324 miles). It also boasts an even swankier cabin than the Cadillac. The trade-off? The iX is way more expensive at roughly $84,000 and up.

Lyriq Performance: Hitting All the High Notes

2023 Lyriq Motor

Cadillac offers the 2023 Lyriq SUV in two layouts: RWD and AWD. The rear-wheel-drive Lyriq has a single 340-horsepower electric motor, while the all-wheel-drive Lyriq features two electric motors with a combined 500 horsepower. Both models are equipped with a 102-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Smoothness is the name of the game for the single-motor Lyriq. The SUV wafts off the line with a brisk but relaxed composure, and it offers ample power for zipping around town and cruising on the highway. The jaunt from zero to 60 mph takes about 6 seconds. Throttle response is swift and linear, and the Lyriq can pass other vehicles with reasonable ease. However, it doesn't elicit the gut-punch of acceleration that some drivers have come to expect of a luxury EV.
